It’s only one month to go before the launch of our third annual #SportOnSocial (26 March 2019) – the social media report that analyses the performance of all 35 Olympic International Federations (IFs).
In case you missed it, here’s the Social Media Rankings Table from last year…
In our 2018 report World Rugby took top spot in the Rankings Table, coming in at number 1 on Facebook and YouTube. The 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Georgia and 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland generated substantial engagements; both tournaments created viral content.
Interestingly, the ITTF climbed 8 places last year to sit second in the Table. It benefited from major tournaments, including its 2017 World Championships and 2017 Men’s and Women’s World Cups. FIBA ranked third, and was the most successful IF on Instagram.
Up until now, our methodology has been based on a 2-metric calculation of number of fans and engagement rate. However, on entering our third year, we wanted to take even more metrics into account to ensure this would be our most significant and in-depth report. The new rankings have been calculated using 6–8 metrics per channel (including growth rate, engagements and video views).
More posts (224k) from more pages have been analysed. As an ever-increasing number of IFs now use separate pages/handles for specific disciplines (FEI have seven, for example) and for World Championship events (e.g. FIFA World Cup), it has been important to incorporate these recognised IF pages.
We’re on an exciting journey and we’d love to share the experience with you. #SportOnSocial prides itself on being the most comprehensive ranking of Olympic IFs on social media and we can’t wait to share our findings.
Over the coming weeks, we’re going to be looking into the trends that have taken the digital world by storm over the past year.
